Industrial Linkages

ORIC, Punjab University has played its role in collaborating with various private and government sector organizations to meet one of its prime objectives i.e. building up a strong university-industry linkage.
ORIC is actively working with Engineering Development Board, Govt. of Pakistan and conducted few sessions with EDB along with their industrial concerns for finding workable solutions for industrial problems. In this context, meeting with the directors of Khawaja Electronics, Mughal Steel, Fibre Craft Industries, Safco Scon (Pvt) Limited was held at Institute of Chemical Engg. & Tech (ICE&T). The faculty of Institute of Chemical Engg. & Tech and Dept. of Metallurgy and Material Sciences proposed workable solutions.
A meeting of EDB and faculty members of ICE&T along with Director of Centre for Coal Technology, Punjab University was held at ICE&T to explore the opportunities for having small scale Coal Gasification Units as an alternate energy resource. The Director, Centre for Coal Technology promised to provide full support and assistance to EDB in this regard.
ORIC is also working with Institute of Research Promotions (IRP) and has successfully conducted two Invention to Innovation summit in the last two years. ORIC and IRP are now working very closely on a number of industrial related problems and in this context, several meetings with various industrial concerns have been conducted. A meeting with Technical Manager of Shafi Reso Chem Industries and former director of Institute of Geology, Punjab University, Prof. Dr. Shafeeq Ahmad was held at ICE&T to develop a pilot scale plant for the processing of chromite ore available in Pakistan.
ORIC arranged a meeting of faculty members of ICE&T with Directors of Noon Sugar Mill for their interest to produce useful products from the waste water coming out after processing of sugar cane. It was decided that a team of faculty members of ICE&T would visit the Noon Sugar Mill to propose the workable solution for this problem.
ORIC and IRP arranged a “Thesis Fair” for students of M.Sc. (Engg.) of Institute of Chemical Engg. & Tech. on 26th June 2013. Ms. Nabeela Intisar (Head, Chemical Committee, LCCI), R&D Managers from Shafi Reso Chem, Schazo Pharma, Key and Emms, Moderno Fabrics, Eco- Gen Energies, Valeed Chemicals and Faculty members of Institute of Chemical Engg. & Tech. were also present at this occasion. The honorable delegates from industry has provided a list of industry driven research projects of commercial value and agreed to finance in terms of paying monthly stipend to students and remuneration for faculty members on completion of their research projects.
ORIC has also facilitated in signing an agreement between Department of Metallurgy and Materials Engineering, Punjab University and Shafi Reso Chem, for the development of “Welding Powder” .
ORIC arranged a meeting of Mr. Rashid from Govt. College University with Centre for Solid State Physics and School of Physical Sciences for testing of leather samples.
ORIC arranged a visit of Mr. Naveed from Shafi Reso Chem to Department of Geology, Punjab University for Chromite ORE testing.
ORIC and Institute of Chemical Engineering &Technology (ICET) are working very closely with Brighto Paints and conducted various tests for samples sent by Brighto Paints at very nominal charges. ORIC and ICE&T are in the process of signing MoU with Brighto Paints. Benefits of MoU would be to finance paint related research at ICE&T and to develop weather and heat resistant paints.
A team of National Institute of Electronics (NIE) comprising of Mr. Ahmed Nadeem Siddiqui, Mr. Saiful Islam Qurershi, Mr. Muhammad Kamran Bhatti and PCSIR representative Engr. Liaqat Hussain visited University of the Punjab, Lahore on 04-10-2013 (Friday). The Director, Office of Research Innovation and Commercialization (ORIC), Prof. Dr. Aamir Ijaz and his team comprising of Dy. Directors Dr. Shakil Ahmad and Dr. Amir Shafeeq welcomed the NIE team in ORIC office at Institute of Chemical Engg. & Tech. The purpose of visit was in the context of MoU signed between Ministry of Science and Technology (MoST) and Punjab University for progressing towards making a strong industry-academia linkage. Prof. Dr. Rafiq Ahmad, Principal, College of Engg. & Emerging Tech. was also present at this occasion. The team visited the labs of Department of Electrical Engg. and discussed the areas in which collaboration can be of mutual interest. Later on, all the members visited the office of Prof. Dr. Shahzad Naseem, Director, Centre of Solid State Physics. The Director CSSP briefed the participants about the products being produced by CSSP and ready for commercialization. The NIE team offered their technical expertise and showed their deep interest in working along with Punjab University to produce industrial based electronics products.
